Blue-Sky

blue-sky v. to imagine or propose unreasonable or as-yet unfeasible ideas.

The killing of the seven CIA agents is still in the news, as well it should be.  It points out the sheer futility of our War on Terror.

Actions have consequences.  “For EVERY action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”  Sir Isaac Newton published his laws of Motion in 1687.  The U.S. Military has been trying to disprove them for years.

CIA bomber’s wife says war must go on against US By SELCAN HACAOGLU, Associated Press

ISTANBUL – The Turkish wife of a Jordanian doctor who killed seven CIA employees in a suicide attack in Afghanistan says her husband was outraged over the treatment of Iraqis at Abu Ghraib prison and the U.S.-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Defne Bayrak, the wife of bomber Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, said in an interview with The Associated Press that his hatred of the United States had motivated her husband to sacrifice his life on Dec. 30 in what he regarded as a holy war against the U.S.

Bayrak also said Friday, “I think the war against the United States must go on.”

Turkish police questioned and released Bayrak on Thursday. But she says police confiscated a book she had written called “Osama bin Laden the Che Guevera of the East.”

With every bullet we fire, for every prisoner we take, we create more terrorists.   As a kid I remember idolizing Robin Hood and Zoro.  They were the champions.  To a lot of people in the world today, the U.S. represents the evil King John of the Robin Hood era or the cruel politicians who felt the prick of Zoro’s sword.  To a lot of people, we have become the bad guy’s.

We are hated for our support of Israel. But, let’s examine that.  What is maybe at issue here is the treatment of the Palestinians.  Perhaps if we could improve on the conditions in which the Palestinians find themselves then they would have fewer reasons to be unhappy.

Lots of things are swimming around in my head at this time.  There was the article yesterday about how Costa Rica ranks as one of the happiest countries in the world because of how rich the country is.  They have NO military.  We are (were) the richest country in the world and two years ago we spent over 60% of our money on the military.  Over 60% of our budget goes towards bad things.  Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Because some yoyo almost blew up a plane as it arrived in Detroit on Christmas day, we are going to spend another billion dollars on scanners in airports that may or may not detect the next yoyo that is bent on making a suicide statement.  Meanwhile, another 85,000 people lost their jobs in the last 30 days.  This is not sustainable.  We could turn this around, “pay it forward,” as it were.

What if we stopped spending 60% of our budget on bad things and spent 30% of our budget on good things?  How much better off would the world become—would we become?  The time is now.

We need to learn how to be kinder to strangers. When I grew up we used to smile and greet strangers. Now we do not even look at people. We need more trust an kindness in the world today.
