New Research on State Crimes Against Democracy

By Peter Phillips and Mickey Huff

New research in the journal American Behavioral Scientist (Sage publications, February 2010) addresses the concept of “State Crimes Against Democracy” (SCAD). Professor Lance deHaven-Smith from Florida State University writes that SCADs involve highlevel government officials, often in combination with private interests, that engage in covert activities for political advantages and power. Proven SCADs since World War II include McCarthyism (fabrication of evidence of a communist infiltration), Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (President Johnson and Robert McNamara falsely claimed North Vietnam attacked a US ship), burglary of the office of Daniel Ellsberg’s psychiatrist in effort to discredit Ellsberg, the Watergate break-in, Iran-Contra, Florida’s 2000 Election (felon disenfranchisement program), and fixed intelligence on WMDs to justify the Iraq War.1

Other suspected SCADs include the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald, the shooting of George Wallace, the October Surprise near the end of the Carter presidency, military grade anthrax mailed to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy, Martin Luther King’s assassination, and the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 on September 11, 2001. The proven SCADs have a long trail of congressional hearings, public records, and academic research establishing the truth of the activities. The suspected SCADs listed above have substantial evidence of covert actions with countervailing deniability that tend to leave the facts in dispute.2

The term “conspiracy theory” is often used to denigrate and discredit inquiry into the veracity of suspected SCADs. Labeling SCAD research as “conspiracy theory” is an effective method of preventing ongoing investigations from being reported in the corporate media and keep them outside of broader public scrutiny. Psychologist Laurie Manwell, University of Guelph, addresses the psychological advantage that SCAD actors hold in the public sphere. Manwell, writing in American Behavioral Scientist (Sage 2010) states, “research shows that people are far less willing to examine information that disputes, rather than confirms, their beliefs . . . pre-existing beliefs can interfere with SCADs inquiry, especially in regards to September 11, 2001.”3

Professor Steven Hoffman, visiting scholar at the University of Buffalo, recently acknowledged this phenomenon in a study “There Must Be a Reason: Osama, Saddam and Inferred Justification.” Hoffman concluded, “Our data shows substantial support for a cognitive theory known as ‘motivated reasoning,’ which suggests that rather than search rationally for information that either confirms or disconfirms a particular belief, people actually seek out information that confirms what they already believe. In fact, for the most part people completely ignore contrary information.”4

Sometimes even new academic research goes largely unreported when the work contradicts prevailing understandings of recent historical events. A specific case of unreported academic research is the peer reviewed journal article from Open Chemical Physics Journal (Volume 2, 2009), entitled “Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust for the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe.” In the abstract the authors write, “We have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all the samples. These red/gray chips show marked similarities in all four samples. The properties of these chips were analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.” Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of a metal powder and a metal oxide which produces an aluminothermic reaction known as a thermite reaction and is used in controlled demolitions of buildings.5

National Medal of Science recipient (1999) Professor Lynn Margulis from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst is one of many academics who supports further open investigative research in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. Margulis recently wrote in Rock Creek Free Press, “all three buildings were destroyed by carefully planned, orchestrated and executed controlled demolition.”6 Richard Gage, AIA, architect and founder of the non-profit Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Inc. (AE911Truth), announced a decisive milestone February 19, 2010 at a press conference in San Francisco, CA. More than 1,000 architects and engineers worldwide now support the call for a new investigation into the destruction of the Twin Towers and Building 7 at the World Trade Center complex on September 11, 2001.7

Credible scientific evidence brings into question the possibility that some aspects of the events of 9/11 involved State Crimes Against Democracy. Psychologically this is a very hard concept for Americans to even consider. However, ignoring the issue in the context of multiple proven SCADs since World War II seems far more dangerous for democracy than the consequences of future scientific inquiry and transparent, fact-based investigative reporting. Anything short of complete, open discourse based on all the evidence about these critical issues in our society relating to the possible continuation of SCADs is simply a matter of censorship.8

This is very interesting. I wonder if Professor deHaven-Smith realizes that the Tampa Tribune misled him in order to get him to give them a quote to cover up a State Crime Against Democracy of the highest order, election theft. For more on that, see http://dailycensored.com/2008/12/17/have-american-elections-really-been-stolen-part-1-in-the-%e2%80%9cdemocracy%e2%80%9d-in-america-series-%e2%80%93-the-proof/

Although I have only read this article about Professor deHaven-Smith’s journal article, I get the impression that perhaps the “news” media’s impact on shaping public perception may have been overlooked. A very large segment of society believes that we have a free press that explores all of the issues and wouldn’t blatantly lie to the public, and therefore, these people believe that if it is newsworthy, the “news” media will cover it and that if something is not covered, then there is nothing to support it. As the saying goes, if a tree falls in the woods, does it make any noise? Likewise, if a skyscraper falls at close to the speed of gravity as if it were demolished by high explosives, but the “news” media doesn’t speak of it, did it really happen?

Furthermore, the “news” media usually ridicules those who question the official position which further undermines the public’s interest in thoughtful reflection because when people begin to entertain such thoughts, they realize that thinking about these issues may lead them to question the official version of events and face ridicule. Most people fear speaking in public because they might be embarrassed, and therefore, such people likely fear the ridicule which they assume will be heaped on them if they question the official version of events.

Perhaps someone should further explore the impact that a combination of censorship and ridicule have on shaping public perception and opinion.

Here are more things to think about. What if those who control our Nation were able to use censorship and disinformation to undermine the means that were provided to the people to control the government?

If the United States is a government of, by and for the people, why do the local, state and national governments ignore our wishes and best interests and how are we the people supposed to be able to control the government?

No matter how many times you are forced to repeat it, there is no magical type of government which provides liberty and justice for all. Instead, all forms of government, no matter what you call them, result in rule by an aristocracy as government agents are given various powers over the general public. Some agents have very limited power and some have vast power. Therefore, if you want liberty and justice and don’t want tyranny and oppression, the question that any intelligent person should ask is, “How can we keep aristocratic government agents from abusing their power?”

Our Nation’s Founders understood this, and in the Constitution, they provided us with the means to hold government agents accountable. However, those means have been undermined, and the two most powerful means of controlling government have been eliminated.

If you want to learn about the two most powerful rights to control the government and how they were stolen, see Why Does the Government Ignore Our Wishes? at http://dailycensored.com/2009/09/11/why-does-the-government-ignore-our-wishes/ and don’t miss my 18 minute speech.

If you take a look, you’ll learn how they get away with violating our rights, abusing their power, and committing horrible crimes. My article on torture includes a link to the U.S. Supreme Court case which explains how one of our stolen rights makes the difference between justice and injustice, between freedom and slavery.

Would you perhaps consider that the “majority” are sheeple who have no clue and just go along with it. Next are those that believe in the mischief as being good. Too many years of believing the lie is truth. Finally there are those that have a clue but not the time nor resources to fight mischief makers and their cheerleaders much less educate sheeple that traded liberty and freedom for a false sense of security and a little temporary comfort.

This is excellent news! Labeling these crimes with the implication of guilt is appropriate at this time when only 21% of the public endorse the legitimacy of the federal government. The highest level of questioning was among those below the $100,000 per year income level. The lower the income, the higher the questioning of government legitimacy. The powers that be took their best shot with the media-genic Obama but he’s grown old in the face of harsh realities.

How could this happen? First, the government does nothing for citizens. That should be abundantly clear. Actually it performs one very important function, it alienates and depresses many. Second, “State Crimes Against Democracy” as defined by the authors, hammer citizens with vulgar passion plays that have clear messages – there is no hope; there is no justice; the guilty are never punished – Kennedy:King:Kennedy.

The to biggest state crimes against democracy at home are electronic voting – privatized democracy so to speak – and the bailouts. My God! The financial and political elite have reached a point where they don’t even respect us enough to lie effectively.

I look forward to getting this article.

The biggest and most insidious state crime is organized and perpetrated by the members of the family law division of each state bar. With state legislatures passing bills into statute laws, without the knowledge or consent of their constituents, the 50 states have committed child abuse in their flimsy attempt to preserve the rights of the few who want out of their marriage, even if there are minor children in that marriage.
But this is not without incentive. Many states ‘encourage’ divorce at an early age of the marriage, where there are minor children. This generates Title IV-D (section 454) funding to the states under the Social Security Act, for processing and enforcing the collection of child support. In Florida, the state legislature is reviewing a bill where permanent alimony remains a legal and enforceable option, and the requirement for permanent alimony is a long term marriage, determined to be only 17 years. When a marriage ends at the 17 year mark, there are minor children who will be hurt when their parents battle over the alimony issue and the state does NOTHING to protect those children from these abusive state laws.
Non-payment for these support issues, for whatever reason (unemployment being one of them), ends up in contempt of court, which translates to incarceration. In the state of Florida, a person can be incarcerated for up to 179 days. The state of Florida gets up to $140 per day for every incarcerated person from the feds. The extends out to $25,060 for a person’s incarceration.

I love a good conspiracy, especially the “grassy knoll” in Dallas in ’63. Whatever else you choose to believe is entirely your affair but Joe McCarthy was right about Soviet penetration of the US, government, military and institutions. I could not agree with his methods but Hiss, the Rosenbergs and countless others, including those close to FDR were agents of either Soviet Military Intelligence GRU – the most successful and underrated intelligence service and the KGB/Comintern through their various metamorphoses. Arguing with people who write rubbish have never been inside the tent and in frustration they lash out.

Apart from being a veteran intelligence officer, I am an historian and social scientist. What you guys have written gives social science a bad name and it stinks and sticks. If ever I’ve seen more practical examples of cognitive dissonance beyond the ‘truthers’ it’s with the Armageddon in 2012 crowd.

Oh and while I’m at it I expect you’re in denial about Islamic fundamentalism. No doubt this comes from reading Dandelion Salad, ICH, Global Research, Infowars Ireland. the Seminal and other weirdos. If the almighty US intelligence agency and Mossad were up to their eyebrows in dealing with dissent and opposition why are people like Tom Engelhardt, Noam Chomsky, Burghart and the Anti-fascist of California alive and well.

You have the Constitutional right to free speech but the Founding Fathers were probably not thinking about bald-faced liars at the time. I’m in favor of selective termination – Ghaddafi, Amhedinejad, your heroes Chavez and Ortega but they’re as rich and infinitely more powerful than Wall Street. Remember this – Wenn der Tag kommt, haben wir unsere Rache

    • Chris Brudy

      Sir,
You are obviously a well meaning American patriot, and I honor you for that. However, like virtually everyone holding your positions, I suspect you have been taken in, as have the vast majority of your colleagues, by the “Big Lie”. Nobody wants to admit they have been bamboozled, deliberately or not, by folks they have trusted their entire careers.
The proof that the “official stories” are cover ups is in the details, in the thousands of “holes”. There are far too many inconsistencies and inaccuracies, too many “witnesses” in the Congressional investigation who refused to answer questions.
Is there nothing in the official story that would raise an eyebrow? Not the black boxes? Not the three videos of whatever hit the Pentagon being gagged? Those are two of hundreds of questions. Have you no doubt whatsoever?

Where can you get good copywriting classes? I hate it when I am stuck without any idea on how to write good copy for ads. My boss tells me that my choice of words aren’t good enough, or my words are too complex, or I don’t have the tone of the people I’m speaking to.. I mean, what the hell? As long as I’m writing good copy with interesting words, isn’t it enough? Maybe I need copywriting lessons. So, any idea where I can get copywriting lessons from an expert?

We are harming this land we live on America if the lawmakers don’t sign this bill. Obviously it will hurt us all in 1 way or another by avoiding the resignation of the signature needed to pass this bill. There are so many thugs in the nation we live in that my letter may never get heard. But that’s understood by the unjust frame of mind liberals have forcing me to bend down to their level. It simply feels like I’m being shot in the foot by the city of Houston, TX after having just been rampaged by a line of abnormal men. But the damage has been done and I only have 15 more year’s of this illiteracy around me.
