It has been clearly proven that the leadership of the major teacher unions and organizations are in bed with the privatizers on Wall Street. I have chronicled this for some time now, arguing that the teacher unions basically suffer from a divorced and overpaid executive supported by a pool of passive paying dues members. Randi Weingarten […]
By Any Means Necessary “By Any Means Necessary’ or BAMN, www.bamn.com is by far the most progressive voice in the fight for public education, students, parents, teachers, student integration, desegregation, an end to racist school policies, and murderous privatization plans by the ruling class. I have written long and hard on BAMN and their efforts, […]
Things not going well for billionaire plan to take over Washington, D.C. Schools As history indicates, it has taken less than a year to cobble together the naked takeover of public education and the merit pay ruse in Washington D.C. Chancellor of Schools in D. C. Michelle Rhee is implacable, beyond expression when it comes […]
I don’t agree with the ideology of charter schools and what they can do. I have been a proud BAMN student organizer in BAMN for at least 8 months now (since October, 2009 and present) and I’m doing my best to defend public education. Another thing about BAMN is that they support student activism; I do also!
It’s all for the kids right? Sure, ask Jerry Lewis the next time you see him at the bank, if you do. The metaphor or analogy to capture this sad sack saga would be like beating up on parents so they could parent better. But the pundits, the right wing think tanks, the billionaires who fund the mess and the political finger-puppets that legislate it all into law have no interest in raising student achievement and don’t let them ever let you believe this. Just look at their motives, their record and those for whom they valet for.
You might remember ‘Jamal’ from my article on Detroit Public schools, “Corporate Barbarians at the Gate: Wal-Mart internships at Detroit Schools” (http://dailycensored.com/2010/03/06/corporate-barbarians-at-the-gate-wal-mart-internships-at-detroit-schools/). Jamal is the high school student who fought against and continues to fight against the Wal-martization of schools, both in Detroit and now nationally. I gave him the anonymous name, Jamal in my article, so as not to put him in a position of probable reprisals from smarmy administrators, private Pinkertons and politicians looking to punish kids for standing up for their human rights.
In the latest news we find that a former department chief at Detroit Public Schools and his assistant used secret offices and their own computer system to improperly divert more than $57 million in school funds to vendors who provided little, if anything, in return. But this is not even the half of it as you will read.
“Amuck,” a place to which we have truly run. A first grader got arrested and put in Juvie because his mom sent along a dinner knife with his birthday cake so the teacher could cut pieces of it for his classmates. Now the little guy is suffering PTSD for the nights he spent there. Adolescents […]
