Brian Murphy
Brian Martin Murphy, a Canadian journalist, has spent 30 years in the global alternative and social justice media sector. In Britain he worked for eight years as an ‘alternative’ newspaper reporter, production editor, magazine feature writer/editor, and international affairs investigator winning national awards for newspaper design and research.
In south, central and western Africa he worked for more than 10 years as a reporter and executive editor, writing for magazines like ‘New African’ and ‘African Business.’ He was the founder and Executive Editor of the southern African regional news service Africa Information Afrique (AIA). For more than 12 years he was a reporter, correspondent and Bureau Chief for Inter Press Service (IPS “The world’s development/alternative news service,” which is based in Rome, Italy.
In the USA Murphy was a co-founder and co-editor of one of the nation’s first Internet-based social justice news services (PeaceNet Headlines).
He is currently Editorial Advisor to the New York based Global Information news service (globalinfo.org), which provides a weekly African headline news service to the USA’s African American newsweeklies.
Dr. Brian Martin Murphy is a professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Niagara University where he helped found the department’s unique degree in Communicating for Social Justice.
