Mickey S. Huff

MHuffMickey Huff is associate professor of history at Diablo Valley College. He was recently the associate director of Project Censored(http://projectcensored.org –which was the recipient of the 2008 PEN Oakland National Literary Censorship Award) and is co-editor of Censored 2010 with Peter Phillips. Mickey is an executive committee member of the Media Freedom Foundation and works with Media Freedom International as the Project Censored University Affiliates Coordinator. He is also a former adjunct lecturer in sociology at Sonoma State University, and the previous co-director of the alternative public opinion research agency Retropoll, in Berkeley, CA (http://retropoll.org).

Mickey has been interviewed for several film documentaries and news programs around the country which include NPR, Air America, Pacifica, Republic Broadcasting, the Progressive News Network, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, New Standard News, FORA TV and many other public media outlets. He has been published on numerous media and news websites, including Global Research, Counterpunch, Z Magazine, Buzzflash, Empire Report, Minuteman Media, and even a few corporate media outlets (which he routinely critiques). He teaches courses in US Media History, Sociology of Media and Censorship, Propaganda and Media Studies, 9/11 and American Empire, and Popular Culture. Mickey co-designed and taught classes on the History of US Media at Berkeley City College, including Critical Reasoning in History; America, 9/11, and the War on Terror: Media Myth Making and the Propaganda of Historical Construction; and American Popular Culture and Mass Media in Historical Perspectives.

Mickey has co-organized and presented at numerous national academic conferences on media and recent historical events, including in Berkeley,Santa Cruz, Minneapolis, and Sonoma County on Truth Emergency and Media Reform (see http://truthemergency.us). He has given public addresses at colleges, community halls, and bookstores across the US on media censorship and American history, and was the host of the Modern Media Censorship Lecture Series at Sonoma State University in the fall of 2008. In spring 2009, Mickey was the Visiting Scholar for the Academic Libraryat the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, discussing media censorship, historiography, and democracy.

Mickey was published in Censored 2009 from Seven Stories Press, co-authoring the chapters “Media Reform Meets Truth Emergency” and “Deconstructing Deceit: 9/11, the Media, and Myth Information.” He is currently working on several articles and chapters for books on the truth emergency, post-9/11 propaganda studies, and collective memory.
